Much like Sin City, thisfilm is mostly black and white and stars a detective working in the city. As the preview progressed, it amazed me as to how much it fit the "definition" of Film Noir. There are many women who try to tempt him (fem-fatals) and there is even a glowing box of light (who would have expected a reference to Kiss Me Deadly?!?!?)(See 1:35 of trailer)

This film seemed to defy the idea that Film Noir is dead. As I pondered this concept, it did occur to me that although this film might have many of the aspects that make it like a Film Noir, it can't be one because the times are not what they used to be and people won't take it as they would back then. Well, I still want to see it when it comes out and I will probably blog about it when I see it.

I think i'll have to agree about how The Spirit does seem like a new age film noir. There are definitely femme fatals in there (looks like quite a few of them), and it uses lots of shadow by the looks of it. I saw the preview in theaters and i had the same reaction as you did about how it looked like a film noir. When you go to see it, maybe i'll join you.
Yes Bryan! Transporter 3 was awful. I do agree that spirit has some elements of film noir, but what it doesn't have is the reality aspect. The film noir genre seems to be used to portray life as it is, showing all the ugly sides as well as the good. I just don't think that a super hero movie can be a continuation of a genre based on reality. This movie definitely seems to be influenced by the genre.
I like the idea of Spirit. I think though he is some sort of super hero or has some powers. I will definetivly see it. Yea, i tried to upload a youtube video and it didnt work!
